Harvey, Duke, Zeus, Jordan, and Carmella all got adopted!!
Lots of empty kennels today.

I walked Jamie first, a collie/sheltie mix. Very quiet dog. Never made a sound, and very shy.
Even when I first pet her, she was aware of it, but just taking in, wanted to make sure I meant it. Then slowly she eased into it, sniffed my face and felt more protected by me. Like to stick close. As we walked she perked up and got a little playful. We saw some other dogs walking and she walked towards them, wanting to check them out, as long as she was just out of reach for them. Or she would peek at them from behind me. I really liked her a lot.

Max was outside in the run. I went to go play with him for a bit. I sat down and he jumped in my lap. He was all wound up, and running around. Very cute little dog.

Brad liked Bandit the most. A lab. Lots of energy and playful, but loving too. We both sat in his kennel with him for awhile and played ball. Bandit clearly loved Brad too.

Vienna I think was an Akita mix. The dogs had all been walked by this time, so it was just visiting time. I went and sat with her. Such soft fur, nice puppy smell to her. Great to give good hard hugs too. So much expression.

We played with Simba last. Simba is such a boxy dog, big head, big feet. Simba was really getting into playing ball with Brad in the kennel and still had tons of energy. So he took him outside on the run to wear him out so he might bark less when people came through looking for a dog. Brad tossed the ball for awhile and then not too much later the return trot started slowing down, and Simba started laying down with his tennis ball.

I don't think I'll see The Passion until it's on DVD.
The other night they showed people sitting in the theater with bibles in their laps...I bet they had little prayer groups going on too....

One thing I really don't get....the film is supposed to be realistic, thats why the language used is Aramaic, thats why such gruesome gore...to be real.

So if he was going after realism....then why is everyone in the movie white?

Columbus and Tortilla got adopted.
Duke got returned due to someone having allergies to him.

I walked Tank a Basset, and then Harvey a Beagle.
Tank was older so I just gave him lots of pets.

Harvey was still puppy and likes to run and play. He would just whiz back and forth like a little blur.

Brad walked Jordan first. An older and overweight lab. Very sweet girl. Similar to Columbus in personality, very scared, hates the kennel noise, seemed a bit frightened. I think she is in love with Brad now. He brought her over to me and Harvey playing outside. She was hesitant, but he kept telling her it was ok, and I guess that was good enough for her. She let Harvey jump on her and say hi, and was fine with meeting me since I seemed ok to Brad. I went in her kennel with her later, and she was happy to see me but when Brad came by she was absolutely thrilled.

Zeus and Duke look so much alike, except Zeus has more of a St Bernard or Mastiff blockhead (it doesnt seem to show in the pictures as much...) Brad likes to play hard with Zeus. Zeus can rip apart a kong with his big blockhead mouth.

I like Duke. Duke is a lover. Likes to get and give soft kisses and will push into me, and then collapse and roll over.

Before we left I stopped in Carmella's kennel. She has such a funny face, her cute underbite. With her short snout she snorts a lot too.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Brad made me breakfast in bed.
I had a small bowl of mango, small bowl of apricot applesauce, a piece of toast, and a scrambled egg with a dash of hot sauce, cheddar cheese and a side of plain yogurt. He brought it up to me on a tray with a beautiful red rose and card. He even used the pretty plates! :)
I ate a little bit of everything and then fed some of it to him.
I got him some Lindt chocolate truffles and a card.
Then off to walk the dogs!

Sambuka, Japser, Duke, the puppies from last time (but there are always new puppies) got adopted. And Tortilla and Columbus are on hold while a family thinks it over.

I walked Columbus first, and Brad took out Zeus.
I forgot my camera today.

Columbus is such a great dog, but one of the other volunteers told me he keeps peeing and pooping in his kennel and then sitting or laying in it. I asked if he needed a bath, but they said they bathed him last night so he was still clean. I hope whoever has him on hold doesnt end up returning him because of something like that rather than taking the time to train him. Issues like that sound more psychological than bathroom training to me though. I think its his confidence and self-esteem. He was sweet as usual with me, stopped, sat down a lot, for pets and loving as we walked. Stayed very close to me, looking back over his shoulder at me a lot. He acts a little coy up close, doesnt demand kisses and hugs. So I just grab him kiss him and hug him, and he so cute, after you do that he is sitting up straighter like it made him happy. He did the same thing with Brad. Brad grabbed his face and kissed his snout, and then he would sit up higher all proud like, so adorable.

Brad walked the pitbulls, Zeus and Boss. Big boxy lovey dogs. So playful. Then he spent time with Simba a Lab, another huge boxy dog

I also walked Joe, a chihuahua terrier mix, and Abby a small yorkshire terrier.

Beautiful day, a bit warmer, sun out. Good walking day. All the dogs got walked before we left so we sat with some of them before we left.

On our way home we went to the car wash to wash salt off the car. Then stopped at Ulta. I had never heard of this place before, but a girl that Brad works with mentioned it and buys her makeup and stuff there, so we thought we would check it out. It's like a lower priced Sephora. I love it! They have the expensive brands and the drug store brands. We picked up a couple of things, I even asked about getting my haircut (they have a salon there) but they were booked. I think my hair is starting to look a little stringy and needs cut soon. I gotta take my mom and sister here when they visit.

Went to the grocery store, then back home. Made a few phone calls and then time for a nap. Ahhh....nap! I love my bed and weekend naps! Just got up a little bit ago from it.

Now trying to download "The Show Stopper" by Super Nature ...tough to find. Its Salt-n-Pepa, before they were Salt-n-Pepa. It's one of those response songs to "The Show" by Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew.

We went to see the dogs yesterday.
I was going to take a couple of weeks off from it but Brad wanted me to go with him so he didn't have to get up by himself. He hates getting out of bed.
Emily, Bernie had gotten adopted.
Tortilla has put on more weight, and his fur on the spots on his head is starting to grow in.

One of the kennel rooms was particularly full of barkers. I walked down the run and they were all worked up and jumping. I got down to one kennel with this huge white shepard mix named Columbus was. He was pressed back against the wall looking super freaked out. Another volunteer told me she took him out for a walk and he didn't do anything but then soon as she put him back he pissed on his food. I went in and sat with him. He wasn't sure about me at first, but seemed like he was making room for me in his kennel to sit. So I made room for him over by me and called him over. He lightened up, came over, still a bit jumpy like when I touched his foot and he must not of seen me going for his foot, but just jumped. No aggressiveness at all. Very aware dog. He liked the petting, but seemed to be very aware of me and my comfort like a good host, I can't even put it in words how he did it. I pulled him into me and hugged and kissed him, held him tight for a couple minutes. Decided to take him out and away from the barking. He was so gentle with me. Didn't pull, and seemed to keep looking over at me as if saying "You doing ok?, You alright?" He looked so beautiful in the snow. His nose is so long, looks like he might have some Great Dane or Collie in him. We stayed out for a long time while Brad walked other dogs. When I went to put im back I walked between him and the other kennels and when he got near his he dove in real quick and laid down. His cage got cleaned up while we were out. Brad went in and sat with him for awhile too before we left.

Jasper is a hound. He growled at both of us when we first got there. I even squatted down with him, but he wanted none of it. Later after walking a couple of dogs Brad went by him and asked him if he wanted to go out and Jasper wanted to go and wasnt growling anymore. Brad said as soon as they got out Jasper was jumping up on him and he thought he was trying to mount him but actually he was just so happy he wanted to jump up and say thanks. He was actually quite lovey, not sure what was up with the growls at first. After Brad told me about him, I went over to see him and went in his kennel with him. He jumped up on me too. But it was weird, when he jumped up I expected to be pushed over but it was like he was barely touching me, not resting his weight on me at all. And he had the loviest eyes!! Whiskers around his eyes looked like extra long eyelashes, all fluttery. He was very sweet.

Zeus was another lover. He has the biggest blockhead! Brad said when other dogs were barking he would cry a bit. He seems totally unaware of his size and how he looks. Just a big sweet baby Huey.

Here is an update picture of Tortilla playing with Brad, and of course I couldnt resist snapping a pic of the sleeping puppies....

Nacho is on loan to us for a couple weeks from Emily. It's been nice having a dog in the house again. Brad has liked big dogs mostly, but I think he has found some pro's of a small dog as well. Nacho is super demanding, and we give in to all his demands. He climbs and sits all over us. If I sit at the computer, I have to pick him up and put him on the table and type on the keyboard around his little body. He makes lots of weird faces. Sometimes when he squinches up his eyes, I think he looks like Kermit the Frog. But mostly I think he looks like Steve Buscemi. At night he dives under the covers. He likes curl up between my legs, but after awhile I want to move and so he curls up in the small of Brad's back. He sleeps under the covers mostly. Sometimes he will accept just being under a pillow with our arm over it. He is the only dog we ever met that isn't a morning dog. He makes his disgusted faces when we try to tell him good morning. And at night he likes to play right before bed, Brad will chase him around, and then Nacho will run around with one of Brad's socks in his mouth. Then he insists Brad pet him, rub his belly while Nacho gives him little stinky kisses. For such a small dog, he has stinky breath. He could be a super hero dog and that would be his super power.

Oh, and here is the big frog flower pot I got from my friend Emily last night when she stopped over.
